CEZ investigated for power cuts

The Energy Regulator Entity (ERE) has started the procedures to give a
4.5 million USD to CEZ for the collective power cuts in some areas.

In a meeting of the ERE Board Commissioners, the legal director, Eduard Elezi, declared that after the inspections on terrain, CEZ has violated the law by punishing the entire community, although the contracts are individual.

“CEZ is not allowed to take collective measures”, Elezi declared.

The Commissioners were against the collective power cuts, but they underlined the need to support CEZ for collecting the money that is not paid by consumers.

According to ERE, the most problematic areas are Shkoder, Peshkopia, Kukes, Lezha and Tirana. Due to the power cuts, the residents have protested by asking individual punishment for those who do not pay energy. The protests escalated to a clash with the police, and an effort of the residents to enter the power station.

CEZ: We don’t give collective punishments

After the ERE announced the start of an investigation against CEZ for illegal power cuts, the Czech Company says that the collective power cuts are taken as measures only for communities where 100% of the residents don’t pay.

In this case, CEZZ claims that they have not undertaken collective punishments.

CEZ says that they have constantly warned the irresponsible residents that don’t pay and those who have made illegal connections to the network. These connections have caused defects in the network and have caused blackouts in the surrounding areas.
