40% of the Cerrik citizens are unemployed. In this town, one of the
poorest in Albania, the closure of the state-owned factories in the
early ’90s has left most of the population unemployed and living on
dole.
The social assistance that they receive is only 2000 ALL per month (20 dollars) and serves for nothing. In the last months they have even received less than the usual, due to the lack of funds.
According to the Cerrik Municipality, there are 500 people who apply each month for social assistance.
The local groceries have stopped giving food on the tick, since in many cases their money has not been returned.
The entire Cerrik has submitted to poverty and unemployment. The citizens don’t know how to overcome this situation.
