Even though the Socialist Party opposed the presidential decree to hold local elections in Dibra on September 11, this will not severe as an obstacle to prevent the commission continuing the preparations, as it was confirmed today in the first meeting of the Central Electoral Commission.

“We are here today to set some deadlines for the preparations of the local elections. We are obliged to be here and to participate in the elections, but we have to mention that the President has committed a violation. But you cannot discuss his decree”, socialist representative Eridian Salianji said.

The deadline for candidates to register was postponed until August 20, after a request from the Socialist Party, which means the electoral campaign in Dibra will last three weeks. This election has gained attention because opposition wants a win in order to show that political support has risen, while the governing coalition needs to reconfirm itself as a majority in Dibra.
