Ardian Bitri, the economist at the Central Bank who was responsible for
supervising the cash quantities and who stole around 7 million USD in
four years, is known at his neighborhood as an avid gambler.

Everyone knows him as the silent man who played huge amounts of cash in football bets, but few are those who want to speak in front of a camera.

“I have known him for 15 years. Everyone knew he played in bets, but he was a polite person”, one of the residents say.

Others prefer to stay anonymous when saying that he had won 100.000 EUR during the world cup only to lose ten times more in the other match. The gambling shops around his home are closed for investigation.

Bitraj lives in an apartment he had taken through a mortgage and which he hasn’t paid yet. All citizens mentioned in Bitraj’s confession of being informed about the theft, have all been called to the police.

The investigations are still being treated as a state secrecy not only because of the huge amount that was stolen, but also for the mechanism that was used. The investigators keep not believing the declarations of Bitraj and of his co-worker, Mimoza Bruzia. She says that she didn’t know anything, while Bitraj says that she had discovered him four months ago.
