CEC voting postponed

The majority withdrew from today’s session and did not vote for replacing the Socialist Movement for
Integration member at the Central Election Commission with someone from the majority, now that SMI left the ruling coalition.

After yesterday’s approval at the Commission of Laws, the Conference of Chairmen gathered this Thursday to include it in today’s agenda. This delayed the Parliamentary works for more than two hours.

The Parliamentary group leaders’ meeting was interrupted twice by the debates for including the majority’s initiative for this session, and as result it was postponed this Monday, with consensus from the SP Parliamentary Group.

Contacted by Top Channel, the SP representatives denied giving consensus for including it at the agenda of this Monday. The SP Parliamentary Group leader, Gramoz Ruci, had called this an illegal move for the fact that it doesn’t respect the criteria of waiting 48 hours after the approval at the Commission of Laws.

But this does not mean that they agree to vote it on Monday, since the replacement of the CEC leader is a serious violation of law.

The postponement seems to have other reasons, though. During the Conference of Chairmen, the Democrats hesitated to vote it today because they didn’t have the votes in Parliament, and that they started negotiating with the MPs who left the Socialist Party. But the PJIU MPs confirmed that they would vote in favour for replacing the CEC member. This might mean that the Parliament had pressure from the international community, in order to not destabilize the pre-electoral situation with these acts.
