CEC: Referendum signatures are fake

22/06/2012 00:00

The signatures of 62.000 Albanians will be verified by the Crime Lab for seeing if they are original or not, before the Central Election Commission can allow the referendum that will decide if Albania will import waste materials from abroad.

According to CEC, they suspect that many signatures have been given by the same hand, and for this reason they have asked the help of the crime lab.

“We met technical irregularities during the review of the materials, but we also suspect that there could be falsified signatures. For this reason, CEC will ask the police crime lab to verify the materials. The CEC decision depends on this answer, but the deadline is June 30th”, declared the CEC Spokesperson, Leonard Olli.

But after this declaration by CEC, the environmentalists asked the intervention of the Ombudsman for this illegal silence of the CEC.

“It is strange that they will have to verify the signatures only now, at the Interior Ministry, when they have had three months to verify everything. Our concern must be taken in consideration today. We don’t see as simple the fact that we are being confronted by deaf institutions. We hope that the Ombudsman will help us so that the people’s will shall be expressed”, declared Lavdosh Ferruni.

“Every city that is near Customs checkpoints has created recycling companies, not for the waste materials of Albania, but for the wastes of other countries”, declared Sazan Guri, an environmentalist.

“We will make everything possible and I will use all legal competences of the Ombudsman for encouraging the CEC and every other state institution to answer in the most correct way not only to this movement, but to all citizens who have trusted this matter that is significant to their quality of life”, declared Igli Totizani, the Ombudsman.
