CEC: Political subject must be identified

Central Election Commission (CEC) explained its decision for blocking Socialist Party video ads, which, according to CEC, do not identify the subject.

“The election campaign TV ads ‘Kush është Luli’ and ‘Kurrë më’, broadcasted by Vision+, Top Channel, OraNews and News24, do not identify the political subject that has paid for the ads and on the favor of which this ad is being broadcasted. This is the reason that pushed CEC to block only the broadcast of the abovementioned ads”, CEC spokesperson said.

“Clause 1.ç of article no.80 of the Election Code provides that ‘every radio-television electoral advertisement that serves to election propaganda should identify the respective subject.’ Clause no.4 of article no.84 of the Election Code provides that ‘only the registered electoral subjects have the right to broadcast political advertisements during election campaign in radios, TVs or private media, digital, analogue, cable, satellite or of any other broadcasting method”, he added.

“CEC guarantees electoral subjects for a free broadcast of political advertisements during the election process, without limiting their content. For not identifying the electoral subject, absolutely not for their content, and for respecting the Election Code provisions, CEC issued an order for blocking the broadcast of the abovementioned advertisements, until the moment when the ordering political subject or the TV that broadcasts it will clearly identify the political subject”, CEC said.
