The Central Election Commission held an urgent meeting after the President decreed to repeal the decree for having the elections on June 30th, cancelling their date.
The Central Elections Commission meeting was to be held at noon, but its Chairman, appointed by the Democratic Party, postponed it without explanations and then abandoned the room, after Vice Chairman Denar Biba said that the decree was invalid.
“The president refuses to implement the order that obliges him to appoint the election date. Based on article 1 of the Constitution, the government in Albania is based on periodic elections, every four years. The repealing of the decree that had decided June 30th as the election date is open and flagrant of these provisions, leaving the country without an electoral date and without an electoral process. This decree doesn’t bring any legal consequence. It is considered as non-valid”, Biba declared.
