The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, recognized the extraordinary
role of the Catholic Church in the creation of the national identity
before and after Albania’s independence.

The Catholic Church in Albania is presented in this jubilee by Dom Nikolle Kacorri, vice chairman of the Vlore government, one of the persons who signed the independence declaration. But despite his role as a patriot, he was forgotten by the communist regime as all other clerks.

Prime Minister Berisha recognized the values of clerks who lit the path of our nation in the difficult times of our Albanian existence, starting with the preservation of the Albanian language and the national identity.

“The Catholic Church led the Albanians’ efforts to be reborn. The church and their clerks brought the creators of the brightest works that affected the national awareness of the Albanians, with names such as Dom Nikoll Kacorri, Father Gjergh Fistha, Ndre Mjeda and other clerks to whom is related the alphabet of our language”, Berisha declared.

“In this 100th anniversary we are living the deep gratitude to the men and women who served with devotion to the common good. I especially want to express my gratitude to those clerks who served without pretensions to Albania’s spiritual and institutional growth, and I pray that God will bless Albania and the Albanians wherever they are”, declared father Rrok Mirdita.

The conference for the role of the Catholic Church in Albania’s independence, with the representation of all religions in Albania, brought to light one of the best values of Albania: tolerance and religious harmony.
