On October 2011, after plenty of debates with the then Democratic Party
government, the Parliament passed a law for integral waste management.
Former PM, Sali Berisha, said that car scrape yards should be 5 kilometers from national roads.
After a media campaign and government operation, most of the owners removed their activities farther from roads, but they turned back just a few months later. The law remained on paper and not implemented for the most part.
The Environment Inspectorate declared that by the end of January 2016, no scrape yard will be allowed 1 kilometer from national roads.
As part of the fight against informality in transportation, which was approved on October 2015, the requirements are that these subjects should stay 1 kilometer from national roads.
