Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future
During a hearing session at the Albanian Health Commission, the chief of
the oncology pavilion at the the Tirana University Hospital Center, Dr.
Agim Sollaku, raised the alarm for the increase of patients with tumors
at 6000 cases each year.
Sollaku asked the attention of the MPs for the problems that the specialist meet in treating cancer patients, the most important of which are the lack of medicine and specialists in regional hospitals.
The Deputy Health Minister, Bardh Spahiu, declared that since 2005, the state budget for cancer patients’ medicaments has increased. He declared that a priority for the Ministry is equipping regional hospitals with modern appliances.
The opposition asked the health minister to clarify the developments with tumor medicines tenders.
The Economic Director at the Ministry, Sajmir Kadiu, declared that the Health Ministry proposed the government to change the procurement law, in order to facilitate the medicine purchase procedures by hospitals.
According to the Ministry Data, the growing number of cancer cases in Albania happened after the ‘90s, when the citizens changed the way of alimentation, pollution and sedimentary life.
However, tumors are the second most fatal diseases after the heart related diseases.
The Minister declared that another step for preventing tumors is the vaccination of the Hepatitis B, which prevents liver cancer. They are also working for entering in the program the vaccine against womb cancer in females younger than 13.
