Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The fiscal system proposed by the opposition, which returns the
progressive tax, has spurred new debates among the businessmen. Nikolin
Jaka, chairman of the Chamber of Commerce is against any change of the
flat tax.
“We are against any increase that affects the removal of the flat tax, which is 10%. We are against any progressive tax system. We have declared that the Chamber of Commerce is against any increase, because Albania advertises the flat tax today as its best offer for the foreign administrators”, Jaka declared.
Luan Bregasi, director of “Business Albania” says that the best option for the business is that of lower taxes, and not the progressive one.
“Under development countries don’t usually apply high and progressive taxes, but taxes that give a chance to the private business so that it can progress. If the government or political parties propose lower taxes, this means that the enterprises will have more oxygen to breathe, and this means more jobs”, Bregasi declared.
Gjergj Buxhuku, who represents the interests of the local producers is against the return of the progressive tax in a wide range. However, he says that there is a category of privileged businesses to which the government can apply additional taxes.
“For the sectors that are working in 100% non-competitive conditions, of a 100% free market, which are in specific areas with licenses given by the government, the additional taxes would be good. As for the enterprises that work in the conditions of free competitiveness, it is unreasonable to discuss additional taxes or abandon the 10% of the flat tax”, Buxhuku declared.
The opposition has officially announced the Socialist economic platform, in which, one of most important points is that of the radical changes in the fiscal system. The Socialist plan aims to weigh the fiscal burden over the richer and ease it over the poorer.
