Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The request of the Public Transportation Association to the Tirana
Municipality for increasing the bus ticket price from 30 to 50 ALL, has
caused a reaction from the opposition.
“All citizens will be affected from this, especially students. Young students need 100 ALL to go to school and return home, and this is unaffordable. We have heard the Mayor promising wonders for the students, such as the students’ card. He even distributed a few of them, but we still see it as an unrealized dream”, declared Jozela Koka, vice leader of the Euro Socialist Youth Forum.
Socialist councilors at the Municipality appeal the Municipality leaders to be careful, because the price increase could burden the citizens’ pockets, especially with the new economic crisis.
“Increasing the ticket price is unaffordable and it would create great difficulties in the daily life of our citizens, who today face poverty. As opposition councilors, we demand that the Tirana Municipality should respond for this effort that will burden the citizens’ pockets. Every decision that falls against the citizens’ interests will be opposed by us, and we will not accept initiatives that damage the community. The Municipality has turned into a closed institution that stays only silent, despite some consequent scandals that have been paid by the common citizens”, declared the head of the opposition councilors at the Tirana Municipality, Aldrin Dalipi.
Dalipi mentioned the cases of increased local taxes for merchants, the inclusion of the cleaning tax at the water bill, the damaging of the National Park and the tender for the GIS system, which was bought by the former administration, for which the Municipality has given no answer.
