The General Chief of Police, Hysni Burgaj, reacted on Top Channel after
the photos that emerged on the media, showing the highest police
directors dining with Arben Frroku, the main suspect for the murder of
former District Police Chief Dritan Lamaj. Burgaj declared that this
photo does not compromise the investigation.
TCH: Mr.Burgaj, do you know when the photo was taken?
Burgaj: The colleagues informed me that this photo was taken 2 years ago.
TCH: Do you know if the police directors have close relation with Arben Frroku?
Burgaj: This is not important, even if any of the colleagues has acquaints with the suspect. He had no precedents with the police. We do our job and implement the law until the case is solved. There will be no influence.
TCH: With whom will you replace these police leaders after they abandoned Lamaj’s case?
Burgaj: The State Police is not short handed. We have 10.000 employees, experts and judicial police officers who can follow the case. It was their decision to abandon it for the public opinion. They have worked intensively for the case without any influence. However, it is a personal decision that I approve.
TCH: Were you aware that Lamaj had received death threats?
Burgaj: Besides the conflict that is open to the media, there is no official document that proves any request made by him for meeting me or any of my dependants about this matter.
TCH: The vice chief of District 6 has also been threatened. What is your position about this?
Burgaj: These cases are under investigation and I cannot release any comments about them.
TCH: Was Mr.Arapi threatened?
Burgaj: There has been a message that is being investigated. I will not add anything else. We will go to the end of the case.
TCH: Will Mr.Arapi be taken under protection?
Burgaj: We have implemented all legal procedures.
