Two days before the new Traffic Code enters in act, the General Director
of the State Police, Hysni Burgaj, addressed a message to the citizens
by asking them to respect it and reduce the high level of
accidents in the country.
Burgaj said that everyone should report when seeing a traffic officer not fulfilling his duty, and guaranteed that the abusers will be punished.
According to Burgaj, the Traffic Code amends were made for increasing the traffic education, in order to prevent accidents and reinforce punitive measures.
The harsher measures don’t aim only punishment of violators, but also to raise awareness among the drivers.
The Traffic Code amends were criticized a few days ago by independent experts of the road safety, who expressed their reserves about the new law, especially for the fines.
Expert Gezim Hoxha declared for Top Channel that fines cannot be doubled, while the roads where they ride do not offer satisfying standards and a signal system that can be implemented.
While the Traffic Police director, Vullnet Topi, declared during an interview for Top Channel that the authorities will undertake a campaign for informing the citizens about the new fines.
