For the first time, almost 25 years after the fall of communism, the
government opened the nuclear bunker built by the communist government
for sheltering the leaders.
The tunnel in Tirana’s suburbs has turned into a museum. It was opened today with the prosence of Prime Minister Rama and the US Ambassador. The museum will stay open until the end of December and anyone can visit it.
The historic and artistic lines are joined together to give clear messages to the visitors regarding the two most discussed periods of our history, the Second World War and the communist regime.
Prime Minsiter Rama, the Defense Minister, Mimi Kodheli, the Minister of Culture, Mirela Kumbaro, accompanied by the US Ambassador, Alexander Arvizu, and the Italian Ambassador, Massimo Gaiani, were present in the inauguration ceremony.
This unusual activity organized by the Prime Minister’s Office, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Defense, uncovers the messages that were given inside this bunker and that symbolize the isolation of communist Albania, but also the constant confrontations of the communist block during the Cold War.
The activity is organized in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of Albania’s liberation from the Nazi, and the 25th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
