The Environment Minister, Fatmir Mediu, and the Minister for the
Management of Waters in Montenegro, Tarzan Milosevic, discussed the
investments in both coasts of the Shkoder Kake and Buna River, in order
to avoid floods for both countries.

Mediu guaranteed for the investments made in the embankments, saying that the second phase of the works is the deepening of the Buna River, but this process should be coordinated and not rushed.

“The first is the emergency phase, which requires the rehabilitation of the embankments, and I guarantee you for the works that have been made in the Albanian side, with a 9 million USD investment implemented so far. This money was used for repairing and strengthening the existing embankments that keep both sides of Buna River. We must see Buna’s case not as separate, but connected with Drin River and lakes”, Mediu declared.

The Albanian Environment Minister met the Montenegrin Minister of Tourism, discussing about the measures that should be taken for reducing industrial pollution at the Shkoder River, which is mainly caused by an aluminum factory at the neighboring country. A common concern for both countries was poaching in the Lake waters.
