Bulqize Mine was mismanaged

The Democratic Party MP, Selami Xhepa, declared that the Bulqize Mine,
one of the biggest natural assets of our country, is degrading rapidly
due to a decade of mismanagement by the private sector.

“Since the license was conceded in 2001-2002, the private investors have not completed their legal obligation, especially those needed for prolonging the activity of this economic asset”, Xhepa declared.

Mr.Xhepa, who represents Bulqize in Parliament, says that the mismanagement tolerated by the state for one decade has reduced the profits for the miners and the overall national economy.

“The chrome mines employed a large number of citizens. More than 3000 were working there when its activity was in full capacity. The employment perspectives have kept shrinking and the revenues have fallen, due to the smaller economic activity. But more concerning is the fact that the mine was exploited by taking only the geological reserves created by earlier investments”, Xhepa declared.

The exploitation rights were purchased one week ago by Balfin Group, a company owned by Albanian businessman Saimir Mane.

“As representative of this community, I have appealed the Ministry of Economy to follow all legal procedures and respect the contractual obligations for the concessionary investors, despite their nationality, a way that will give more trust to the citizens’ and miners, so that this natural asset will live longer and will offer more profits for the community”, Xhepa declared.

Xhepa says that if the government will keep tolerating the violations by the private sector, the mine and but the entire town of Bulqize will be in danger.

“It would put the existence of the town in danger, because it is closely connected to the existence of this activity”, Xhepa declared.
