In a two-day visit to Tirana, which aims to encourage the Bulgarian
investments in Albania, the Bulgarian Prime Minister, Bojko Borisov
guaranteed Prime Ministe Sali Berisha for the political support of his
country when the 27 member countries in Brussels will discuss Albania’s
EU candidate status.
Bulgaria and Romania are the two Eastern European countries that accessed the EU in 2007 with full rights, but their funds were suspended due to corruption and the lack of complete rule of law.
“Bulgaria’s voice is heard in Brussels. We helped Croatia, and we will also help your country. We can give a great contribution to Albania, when the EU Commission will decide to open the negotiations. We can help with our experience, the positive and negative ones. You can count on Bulgaria’s vote. I guarantee you for this”, Borisov declared.
Albania’s EU integration matter was the focus of the discussion between the two Prime Ministers. Mr. Sali Berisha declared that he did not ask to his homologue in Bulgaria or the others more than what our country deserves.
“Naturally, my request was very correct and I presented it to my friend. Support if the laws will be voted. We cannot ask anyone what we cannot do ourselves. This is a honest and open position. We have offered the biggest consensus for these laws, and we will continue, within what the Constitution allows. I hope and believe that there will be no obstacles to pass these laws. Naturally, the Albanian government doesn’t have the qualified majority. Now it is up to the opposition leader if they will use their minority to block the progress or not”, Berisha declared.
“Economic cooperation with Bulgaria”
The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, inaugurated today the start of the Albania-Bulgaria Economic Forum, by emphasizing the economic cooperation between the two countries.
Berisha valued the Bulgarian businessmen’s investments in Albania, saying that our country has friendly policies towards the investors.
“The Forum attracts Bulgarian businessmen to Tirana. There will be a clear engagement of our governments to develop the mutual cooperation. We have excellent relations, but they need your contribution. The main pillars today are those of economic cooperation between the two countries. My government will make everything possible so that this cooperation will become a success story”, Berisha declared.
As in every other economic speech, the Prime Minister mentioned the achievements of the Albanian economy, such as avoiding recession and having an economic growth that is four times higher than that in the other countries of the region.
“We resisted to the crisis and during these years Albania has not fall in recession. Albania had an economic growth four times bigger than the countries of the region. This came as consequence of the reforms and the friendly climate towards business”, Berisha declared.
“The exports and the number of tourists increase in Albania, with 4.1 million visiting our country this year. Albania has a special energy potential”, he underlined, adding that our country has what it needs to turn into a small economic super-power.
