Two Bulgarian tourists had an accident today while climbing the Jezerca peak in the northern Alps of Albania, and one of them tragically lost his life.
The young mountaineer reportedly died after falling from a height. Residents of the area and the police arrived at the scene in a few hours. A helicopter has also arrived at the scene and work is underway to extract the body from the abyss.
The climb to Jezerca, from the tourist village of Thethi, requires a very good physical preparation as it takes up to 8 hours of climbing on a difficult terrain, but a large part of foreign tourists prefer to climb without a local guide.
Jezerca is the highest peak in the Dinaric Alps, the second highest in Albania and the sixth in Southeast Europe, with an altitude of 2694 m above sea level. It is one of the most prominent peaks in Europe, and is considered one of the most difficult and dangerous climbs in the Albanian Alps.
