The National Inspectorate of Urban Construction has surrounded a
building in Gjirokaster that has been built according to the traditional
style in an area that was once full of concrete, announcing that it
will be demolished.
The owner says that he has not been warned for the demolition. He claims that he has implemented the project approved by the National Inspectorate of Urban Construction by conserving the traditional style in wood and stone.
The building has the restoring permit, but according to sources from the National Inspectorate of Urban Construction, the permit had been violated and the building had gone beyond the limits of the former one. In Gjirokaster, and especially at the museum area, there are more than 300 illegal buildings, most of them in the façade of the city.
They are followed by concrete, terraces, added objects, changes on the structures of roofs and windows, but no measures have been taken for stopping this degrading.
