The eighth meeting of the Stabilization Association Council between
Albania and the EU was held in Brussels, with our country represented by
PM Edi Rama, who met with the EU Head of Foreign Police, Federica
Mogherini, and the Commissioner for enlargement, Johannes Hahn.
In a joint press conference after the meeting, Mrs.Mogherini expressed her trust that the justice reform will give positive effects.
“We believe that the justice reform will have a positive impact in our economic relations”, said the High Representative of the EU, who made an appeal to the Albanian political class.
“The political parties are responsible for the implementation of the reform. We will support Albania in this process”, Mogherini said, adding that the meeting with PM Rama was an excellent one.
The Albanian prime Minister declared that today’s meeting confirmed the mutual commitment to continue with the justice reform.
“I value your important contribution. My presence here confirms the mutual dedication to continue and cooperate closer for this major reform”, Rama declared.
He expressed his trust that a constant implementation of the key reforms will reinforce Albania’s path towards the EU integration.
“The vetting is an important step for the implementation of the justice reform”, Rama continued.
“He added that it is important for the EU to give a positive recommendation for the negotiations, and guaranteed that Albania will be on the right level.
The Commissioner for Enlargement, Johannes Hahn, underlined that the purpose of the reform is not to get closer to the EU, but to serve better to the Albanian citizens.
“When the EU contributes, it is not to have Albania closer to the Union, but it is for the benefit of all Albanians”, Hahn declared.
According to him, the justice reform was the first step. Now it is up to the Albanian political parties to implement it.
