Bread producers asked the National Food Authority, the Metrology
Directory and the Municipality to take measures for standardizing the
bread’s weight.
They say that bread in Albania should be sold in weight, same as in other EU countries, in order to stop weight abuses.
“The clients can pay for the bread by its weight, at the cashier. Different types of bread can be standardized, while the price can be liberalized according to each of the producers. This would regulate the producers’ abuses, who are rightly accused”, declared Gezim Peshkopia, from the Bread Production Association.
Peshkopia asked the respective structures to fight informality in the bread market. In many cases, abusively, bread is produced in family environments.
“Another problem is the bakeries informality, which produce it in family environments. The institutions should intervene for controlling these producers”, Peshkopia declared.
Abuses in weight and prices are another problem that has been reported by Top Channel several times, but the respective structures have tolerated this phenomenon on the consumer’s damage.
