Brace: Penal prosecution for Imami

Socialist Party considers the Defence Ministry’s purchase of
interception equipments for the Military Intelligence Service as
illegal.

The vice chairman of the Socialist Parliamentary Group, Erjon Brace, addressed questions to Prime Minister Berisha and the Defence Minister, Arben Imami, for the purchase of this equipment.

“Berisha spoke yesterday about the opposition’s accusations for the illegal interception made by MIS. He said that we have no evidence for this. I challenge him with a question: the order nr.146 of 2 February 2011, signed by Minister Imami for paying 1.589.400 EUR for interception equipments… can he say if that is a classified document or not? What’s its security level? Is the NATO acquainted for the purpose of this equipment? Let’s come to the legal obligations. Has the Defence Minister informed the General Prosecutor for the purchase of this equipment, as the law for MIS requires? All these questions have one answer. I don’t expect Arben Imami and MIS to answer. The SP, the opposition and every Albanian is waiting an answer from the authorities that are responsible”, Brace declared.

Brace also answered the accusations of Prime Minister Berisha, who declared that the opposition is degrading the Defence Ministry and the Albanian Military.

According to him, all declarations released by the Socialist Party are in full accordance with the duties of any lawmaker, and aims to exert the Parliamentary inspection over the executive. According to Brace, the Prime Minister lied when he said that he has published falsified “top secret” and “secret” documents, since the ones that he owns are not such. For Berisha, according to Brace, Montenegro is more than just a friend country.

“He proved this since when he broke the UN embargo by helping Milosevic’s war machine”, Brace declared.
The Prime Minister’s declarations in yesterday’s press release are considered by Brace as an open threat.

“Yesterday Berisha made personal and political threats with prison. I am a political opponent of Sali Berisha. Berisha kills and imprisons people like me, because that’s all he knows, he knows no other democratic confrontation with his opponent. He doesn’t want his opponent’s freedom, the freedom to speech, to compete, to get confronted and to have democratic inspections from the opponent, as in every other democratic country. This is the reason why we don’t live in a Democratic Republic, but in a regime where the Prime Minister dominates, violates, threatens and tries to close the opponent’s mouth over vital truths. He does it only by imprisoning and killing them. The SP, the MPs and the opposition people will confront him, despite his violence”, Brace declared.
