The Socialist MP, Erjon Brace, asked the government to stop the sale of
the Albpetrol Company which, according to him, is being held against the
interest of the Albanians.

“It is unacceptable that such an entire strategic sector which Albania really needs goes to the privates with the conditions of a clear monopoly”, Brace declared.

The vice leader of the Socialist Parliamentary Group declared that the government is following a path that is already proven failed, and which has started years ago with the privatization of the production, which peaked in 2008 with the sale of the refinery.

“I’m talking about the privatization of Armo, which not only lacked of transparency, but the elected investor warned its failure that now is completely confirmed, not simply because the refining process failed, but because of the chains of debts in which the company is involved”, Brace declared.

The privatization of Albetrol marks the end of public assets in the oil sector, because the private company that will buy it will have special rights that historically have belonged to the state.

“The company will allow the exploitation of different sources and will give permit for the production. It will allow special researches in the oil containing areas of Albania. The company will take the role of the government even in other rights, such as the transportation, the gas network in our country. A monopoly so big that it will be a burden for the Albanians”, the Socialist MP declared.

According to Brace, the economic costs are not the only reason why the privatization should stop. According to him, the strategic interests of Albania are being compromised by some big bidders who will be protagonists in this tender.

“Such as the Russian, Serbian and Chinese operators presented in this process, who will bring their big offers for taking and influencing in the national policy of this country, as they have done in the past”, Brace declared.

The offers for the sale of Albpetrol will be officially open this Friday. 19 companies have offered their interest, two of which are American, one is Chinese and another one is Russian.
