After an agreement reached between the Albanian and Montenegrin border
authorities, dozens of seasonal workers, mainly from villages close to
the border who work in Albanian villages in Montenegro, were allowed
once again to cross the border.
Martin Berthamzaj was one of them, from the Oblik village in Shkoder. He has traveled for years to the Albanain villages in the Montenegrin border, with his bike.
But after some media showed interest on the matter, the Montenegrin authorities stopped him from crossing the border.
“They asked me to pay 200 Euros to cross the border. I don’t have that sum”, Martin Berthamzaj said.
After an intervention of the Albanian border police, Martin was allowed to cross the border, but his case shows that the agreement remains fragile. This means that others may be banned from entering the country through the same procedures.
