It seems that Italy will break the diplomatic ice with Albania, giving signs that the developments before 2005 will return. The Head of the Italian diplomacy, Emma Bonnino, will be the highest European personality that will visit Tirana officially.

This visit has been confirmed by the Albanian Foreign Ministry, which has released an announcement regarding her meeting with the head of the Albanian diplomacy, Foreign Minister Ditmir Bushati, and also with the Italian Ambassador to Tirana, Massimo Gaiani. The Foreign Ministry emphasizes that Minister Bushati and ambassador Gaiani discussed about the visit of the Italian Foreign Minister Emma Bonnino in October, as the first homologue that will visit Tirana after the June 23rd elections.

The diplomats emphasized the need of intensifying the economic cooperation in a national and local level between the two countries. The exact day of the official visit of the Italian Foreign Ministry will be decided in the days to come.

But the fact that this is the first foreign visit, shows a well defined diplomatic target set by rome and Tirana. Italy will still be the main partner of Albania in the region, returning the situation of the “Prodi Era”, and that of the Berlusconi government from 2001 to 2006, when Italy had the diplomatic priority in Albania.

The Greek Deputy Prime Minister and the Greek Foreign Minister will visit Albania in October,a s well as the Turkish Foreign Minister, Ahmet Davutoglu.
