A ferry of the Trieste-Durres line has seen a boat with the logo “Reina 1”.
The boat was found by the ferry “Filipos”, and the Turkish frigate rushed to the scene and started the searches for the lost sailors. In the area have also arrived vessels from Albania and Montenegro.
There is no information if the boat of Reina 1 has any sign of the sailors’ bodies.
The searches have continued intensively for the eight sailors that were lost after the cargo ship “Reina 1” had a collision with the ferry “Ankara”.
The only survivors were the ship Captain, Ahmet Soyturk and the Second Officer of the ship, Ahmet Bal.
Cargo Ship sinks in Durres, 2 survivors, 8 lost
A cargo ship sank near the port of Durres after a collision with a Durres-Bari ferry, in the first hours of the morning.
Only two of the crew members survived, while the authorities are searching the bodies of 8 other members. The ship named “Reina 1” sank after a collision with the Durres-Bari ferry named “Ankara”.
The ship that sank 20 miles from the Albanian borders was carrying a Maltese flag and was owned by a Turkish owner. According to preliminary data, the ship Reina 1 had 10 crew members on board.
Albanian armed forces and the Coastguard are continuing searching for the lost, while local authorities have established the emergency committee, headed by the Durres Prefect, Genci Alizoti.
The 196 passengers of “Ankara” had no danger. The collision might have been caused by a human error of the ferry crew.
The survivors of the “Reina 1” are in good physical conditions at the regional hospital of Durres, but under psychological shock.
They say that the ship sank in two minutes, leaving no time to wear the life vest, when most of the crew was sleeping.
