BMI Research is a company specialized in economic analyzes, owned by the financial giant Fitch.
In a special risk report for Albania, it notes that Albania has marked progress, but this year it will face important tests.
“Albania has marked huge progress in addressing political challenges during the past two years, but the real test will come with the June 18th elections”, the report says.
According to the company, the elections create the background of two main risks that will be faced with the country’s economy.
“While the EU accession criteria will be a very strong reference for politics, despite of wo wins the elections, the risk of regress is maybe higher if the opposition wins power”, the report underlines.
The second biggest risk, according to BMI, is the outside environment. “A slowdown of the Greek or Italian economy would hit the Albanian Lek and bring inflation, putting the private consumption at risk”, the report notes.
According to the BMI Research, the Albanian economy will not benefit from Europe’s better economic situation, since it is exposed to two of Europe’s weakest economies, Greece and Italy.
But the internal demand will stay high and keep Albania among the economies with the fastest growth in the region.
