The Vice President of the USA, Joe Biden, during a visit in Croatia,
expressed his support for Balkan’s EU accession and said that a complete
integration of the region would be the biggest guarantee for its
stability and for Europe.
“We are looking for ward to this. A fully free Europe was the dream of my generation and that of my father. The realistic view on this case is that there can be no complete integration of Southeastern Europe in the EU without Balkan”, Biden said.
The annual summit organized by Croatia and Slovenia since 2013 aims to promote regional cooperation and EU integration. It serves as a higher level forum for discussing general matters of the region.
Biden mentioned the immigration crisis, saying that while the EU leaders are expected to gather this Sunday on this issue, those people need clothing, shelter and food under the increasingly colder weather.
“This is a challenge that requires commitment from everyone. We all must do more”, Biden said.
The European Council President, Donald Tusk, reiterated the commitment of the Block to expand the accession perspective for the countries of the region. He also commented about the dowining of the Russian airplane in the border with Turkey, encouraging all parties to work for easing the tensions and join forces in the fight against the Islamic State.
