The Court of Tirana started the judicial process against the Socialist
MP, Saimir Tahiri, sued by the children of the Albanian Prime Minister,
Argita Malltezi and Shkelzen Berisha, who demanded indemnification
against slander, for a declaration made by MP Tahiri in a TV station,
accusing the Prime Minister’s children as involved in corruption.

He declared that MP Tahiri had no evidence for supporting his declaration and asked the court to trial him for slander and for damaging the image of the Prime Minister’s children, who enjoy good reputation in society. The Prime Minister’s children asked an indemnity of 8 million ALL, arguing that the defendant has a high wage, being an MP at the Albanian Parliament.

Tahiri rejected the slander accusation, repeating his declarations on court, that the Prime Minister’s children are corrupted. He requested the administration of some evidence that according to him prove that they are involved in corruption. Tahiri also asked as evidence the records for how many times Berisha’s son has been in and out the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Justice, for the negotiations in the Gerdec ammunition dismantling business.

Considering the Prime Minister’s son as involved in the Gerdec corruption, Tahiri also requested Delijorgji’s and Mediu’s phone records for proving their communication with Shkelzen Berisha, before and after the Gerdec tragedy, and especially on the day when the explosion took place, and a document of the Justice Minister, Aldo Bumci, adressed to the Minister of Defense of that time, Fatmir Mediu, in which he had written “for Mr. Shkelzen Berisha”.

Tahiri also requested the mail records of “Malltezi and Kola” legal studio with businessman Zafar Asnar when the Albanian government was approving the construction plan for the Porto Romani Industrial Park. On Tahiri’s witness list are mentioned names such as Damir Fazlic, Mihal Delijorgji, Zafar Asnar, Rahman Selmanllari, Ministers Mediu and Bumci and Berisha’s children.

The Socialist MPs accompanied Tahiri at the court session and asked the plaintiffs to withdraw their charges.

“We came here for meeting Argita and Shkelzen Berisha, to whom we would say that a real champion in Albania for abusing with the free speech, and for damaging other people’s honor and personality is their father, Sali Berisha”, declared the Socialist MP, Eduard Shalsi.

“I do not withdraw my declarations in which I have said that the Prime Minister’s children were corrupted”, Tahiri declared after the session.
