Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future In the meeting with Albania’s 45 honor councils around the world, part
of the state agenda for the 99th Independence anniversary, Prime
Minister Berisha promoted Albania’s image as a country with high
development potentials.
Underlining that Albania’s priority is the EU integration, Berisha expressed his conviction that this should be a process completely based on the performance. On this principle, the PM mentioned Albania’s efforts in these two decades of freedom, which turned it from the third poorest country in the world, with 204 USD per capita, to a country with average annual revenues of 8000 USD per capita.
As a key moment for the country’s development, Berisha mentioned the period after 2006, when his government started the economic reforms by decreasing taxes and by increasing investments on modern infrastructure. According to him, until 2006 were built only 2430 KM of roads from the 18.000 KM long network, and in two years, Berisha believes that all roads will be complete, offering to the citizens and business easier circulation and more time saved.
“I don’t pretend that we have an open boulevard in front of us. Not yet. But we are trying hard to improve the business climate in the country. We established one of the systems with the lowest fiscal burdens in Europe and wider – the flat tax of 10% – the social contributions to 15%; and we removed many other fees. Some serious studies show that the Albanian government belongs to the top ten countries with the lowest government interferences, which is a very good thing. I believe that regardless the fact that Albania is a small country in the map, you can find in this small country unbelievable potentials”, Berisha declared.
PM Berisha noted that the careful politics and the economic reforms ranked Albania as one of the fewer countries that not only recognized no economic recession, but the foreign direct investments even increased. However, the Prime Minister asks the Consuls of Honor to engage for encouraging other foreign investors to come and work together with the government, in order to turn Albania into a developed country.
