Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The 2012-2014 fiscal economic program approval by the government was a
good occasion for Prime Minister Sali Berisha to reveal one of the main
orientations of the government’s electoral campaign.
“2013 is approaching and the Albanian citizens will have the big chance to vote this program that predicts a significant increase of the wages, rather than taxes, and also other progressive facilities. Tow things will accompany this program: the income growth and the reduction of unemployment”, Berisha declared.
The PM did not forget to compare his economic model, based on the flat tax, with the alternative progressive tax that has been proposed by the opposition, which suggests that those who earn more must pay more. PM Berisha explained why he calls it a Marxist platform and why Mr. Rama’s plans are past atavisms.
“Statistics show that in Albania, 40% of the jobs have been created by 1% of the businesses. Now let’s attack these businesses with a Marxist canon, and destroy thousands of jobs. This will never happen. This man was born for punishing himself”, Berisha declared.
Berisha noted another difference to the Socialists, which is the privatization program. The government approved the change of two laws for fuels, which, according to Berisha, are very important for the Albpetrol privatization.
“There can be no kind of hesitation for the privatization and its deeper expansion. This process was almost completely stopped during the second Albanian socialism. They have one thing: they see everything for their own benefit, because they think that they are gods in politics, economy and everything. They privatized even the Savings Bank, after an ultimatum by the IMF. I promise that this process will not stop”, Berisha declared.
Rama: The problems are the monopolies
The Prime Minister’s declarations were followed by the opposition leader reactions. Rama commented on Twitter about the return of the Albanians who receive education abroad.
“The brain cannot be returned from abroad by a government that can only make propaganda with lies, slander and defamation”, Rama declared.
As for the tax system, Rama declared that the problems in economy are the partnerships of the government with their own businesses, and not the taxes. According to Rama, the “administration of bribe” is the problem, and not the taxes. He added that the Albanian business will be reborn, and that the Socialist government will return free competition, will remove the references and mafia-style protection payments. “The monopolies are the problems and not the taxes”, Rama continues.
The opposition leader also told the Head of the Government that what he calls a “Marxist tax”, it the example given by the USA, the EU and all normal countries. Rama says that common employees cannot be charged at the same way as big businessmen, and this, according to Rama, can be achieved with a change.
