Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, asked the Mayors and commune
leaders to prioritize the environment cleaning and apply zero tolerance
for polluters.
After evaluating the last tourist season as successful, declaring that Albania was visited by 4 million tourists, Berisha declared that the pollution is a serious threat for the success of tourism even during this season.
“We must make great efforts for establishing better standards in the protection, cleaning and development of the environment. Our rural psychology and heritage cannot push the environmental development forward in Albania. Other standards are required. The crimes against the environment are known, and this is a great responsibility of ours”, Berisha declared.
After guaranteeing the government for continuing to reinforce the local autonomy, PM Berisha criticized the job made for the tax collection.
“In the first effort, when the government decided to pass all small business taxes to the local governments, I cannot say that there was a success. A considerable number of municipalities and communes have made an excellent job, but in general, are less than they should”, Berisha declared.
As regards the fact that the taxes are not collected, the Prime Minister declared that many Municipalities and Communes have collected this tax in unacceptable limits. Berisha gave these declarations during the National Conference for an effective local government that aims the efficiency of the local and regional administrations, financed by the Swiss government and the Council of Europe.
