Prime Minister Sali Berisha expressed his support for Durim Hushi, the candidate of the “Alliance for the Citizen” in Elbasan. The head of the government stressed out that on 2013, Tirana and Elbasan will be united through the highway, the construction of which starts after some weeks.

“I have the pleasure to support the candidate of the governing coalition for Mayor of Elbasan, Durim Hushi. I am here today to promise here, in this square, that the government will finance any project that you, together with Hushi, will plan during this campaign. Durim Hushi, on a crucial moment for Albania, proved that before being a Socialist or a Democrat, he was a citizen of Elbasan, he was a citizen of Albania”, Berisha emphasized, referring to the vote that Hushi gave for the Albanian President in the Albanian Parliament.

“During the next mandate, Elbasan will have its new ring road and its bypass, will have an implant for processing residues, and will have one of the best university campuses in Albania. On the few weeks to come, together with your first citizen, we will cut the inauguration ribbon of the Tirana-Elbasan highway, an investment of 460 million USD, a highway with four lanes, with a 4.2 km long tunnel, 7 overpasses, 4 underpasses, many bridges, a circulation speed of 120 kmh, and a total length of 31.7 km. This highway costs four times more than the other project, but you deserve it. I am convinced that together with Durim Hushi, the future Mayor of your city, and together with Lulëzim Basha, the future Mayor of Tirana, on the spring of 2013, we will unite Tirana with Elbasan”, Berisha declared.

Berisha responded to the Socialist Party accusations saying that he feels proud that he is working every day for the Albanian citizens.

“The Socialist Party leader thinks that he can offend me by calling me “a communal director”. But for the citizen, I am a communal worker. I feel privileged and blessed by God that I have the possibility to serve to any citizen of this country”, Berisha said.

“Europe does not come in Albania by itself. We should build Europe here, altogether. Mr. Rama, since you think that new roads are not important, how could your heart oppose with all your strength the budget for the tunnel to Elbasan? I appeal all citizens to make the deputies explain on why they voted against the tunnel and the highway. The road is vital for every citizen. I will build roads all over Albania”, the Prime Minister declared.

Berisha also emphasized his appeal for calm elections, declaring that they should give positive messages to the EU.

“Let us transform this campaign into the campaign of values, dialogue, discussion and understanding. We should prove to ourselves and to all Europe that we are European citizens, determined to respect any vote”, Berisha said.
