Berisha: Removing immunity

According to Berisha, these changes are important for the war against corruption,m because they are created by the Asset Verification Inspectorate, with too much spaces for investigating an eventual concealing of wealth by high rank officials, or for passing illegal assets to relatives.

These legal changes were a good occasion for PM Berisha to remind that one of the 12 conditions for receiving the EU candidate status. Although both parties have expressed their political will, which makes them ready to change even the constitution, this condition remains unfulfilled and according to Berisha, the only obstacle is the Socialist Party.

“I invite Mr. Rama to not listen to the ‘council of billionaires’ of his party, but the voice of the simple socialists. Mr. Rama must chose between the interests of his MPs, Tom Doshi, and the interest of a common socialist who has been voting him for 20 years, and who has hundreds of thousands of others like him. He should not jump from a press conference to another, talking about poverty. Corruption is the main factor in a free country that encourages poverty”, Berisha declared.

Rama reacted on Twitter    

The opposition leader, Edi Rama, answered to the Prime Minister’s declarations through twitter:

“The Prime Minister declared that the SP doesn’t want the removal of immunity, but this is merely evil, because the SP has voted unanimously to remove the immunity for everyone, even for itslf”.

Another message of the Socialist leader says that the Prime Minister is slandering the Socialist MP by name. SP declares that he Prime Minister’s declaration that the Socialist MP Tom Doshi is the obstacle for removing the immunity is a complete lie, reminding the Prime Minister that Tom Doshi has no immunity, as voted by the Socialists and the democrats too.
