Berisha: Rama, a blocking strategy

30/09/2011 00:00

The new road that connects Gjinar with Elbasan is 21 km long and will facilitate the circulation of the 15.000 locals, will open new opportunities for the mountainous tourism and agro-business. Its inauguration was a good occasion for Prime Minister Berisha to show the differences between him and the opposition leader, Edi Rama.

According to the Prime Minister, this difference can be measured by taking the efforts of both of them and comparing which has been in the Albanians’ interest or not. After focusing on the governments’ efforts for improving the Albanians’ life through development projects in road infrastructure, tourism and agriculture, Berisha declared that these efforts have faced the obstacles of the blocking alternative, offered by Edi Rama. One of the examples that the Prime Minister gave, was that of the visa regime that was lifted for the Schengen countries. He said that there is only one reason why Edi Rama worked against this reform:

“He did it because he wants to transform his personal defeats into the defeats of each of you. The visas were not for Sali Berisha, because I can travel with a diplomatic passport. The visas were not for the Democratic or Socialist MPs, because all of them travel through diplomatic passports. The visas were for you, who had to stay for hours in embassies for one visa. I guarantee you that I will be more determined than ever to make everything for your interests. I guarantee all electors, the electors of the opposition, that I have had the most solid respect for it. Nothing will change my respect for the opposition’s role, but the truth is that they have chosen to block the progress”, Berisha declared.

Berisha’s opinion is that Edi Rama has chosen the blocking way, since the opposition will not vote the laws that require qualified majority if the ruling party will not consider their 10 requests for reforms.

Once again, Berisha mentioned only two of the 10 requests for which he expressed his readiness to agree on: the electoral reform, all ODIHR recommendations and the Parliamentary Regulation. For the latter, he added that Rama’s request for returning the regulation of 2005 is a request for returning in the past. According to him, Edi Rama doesn’t want consensus, but to block the situation for personal reasons, against the Albanians’ interest.

“I invite everyone to check the Regulation of the European Parliament, and if the regulation of our Parliament has any clause that is not consistent with the regulation of the European temple of democracy, I’m willing to change it. But Rama doesn’t want this. This is a farce, same as in autumn 2009. He wants these only to go towards the Socialist Congress and take his own decisions, decisions that will give him in the elections of 2013 the deepest defeat he has ever seen in his entire history. He doesn’t want an election reform, but he wants to block it. He doesn’t want a Parliamentary Reform, but he wants to block it.”

Berisha guaranteed that he and his government will continue to implement laws and the Constitution for all decisions, as the best interest for the Albanian citizens.
