Berisha proposes changes to hymn

At the Inter-Ministerial Committee meeting for the 100th year of
independence, Prime Minister Berisha made a proposal that changes the
national hymn by returning the two verses removed from the original poem
written by the Albanian renaissance writer, Asdreni, due to the
religious content.

“For God himself proclaimed: The nations of the earth shall wane, And yet will live, will thrive Albania. For her our fight won’t be in vain.” This is the verse that was removed from the national hymn by the communist regime.

“The national hymn must return in its full form. The appeal of the Albanians to God is the most righteous appeal, because it means that the love for the nation and the country derives from God. Let’s see al modalities of how can we return this verse that was removed, and let’s discuss it with the academy, the institution, the composers. I think that the hymn must turn in its full variant, as it was written by the Renaissance poet, Alexander Stavre Drenova”, Berisha declared.

The Prime Minister’s declaration comes in a delicate moment and it seems more like a way to remove attention, rather than a real project of the Inter-Ministerial Committee.

It remains to be seen if this project will be completed, by giving Albania another national hymn of the 100th year of independence.
