By comparing the Albanian economy with the debt deterioration crisis in
some EU member countries, Prime Minister Sali Berisha notified in the
government meeting that the positive indicators for the Albanian economy
are continuing to grow.
The first official indicators are those of the first trimester of this month, which closed with an increase of 3.4%. The growth was higher than in the same period of the last year, when the trimester was closed with a positive growth of 2.1%. According to the Prime Minister, the revival of the construction sector and of all its branches is the main reason of the achievement in this trimester, followed by transportation and industry. According to him, different to the European crisis, which is not expected to be short, the Albanian economy has all conditions for a greater growth, because it is based on the private sector.
“The Albanian economy is resisting like David against Goliath because it is a private economy. It is not resisting thanks to the managers of the public enterprises. We have very few public enterprises. It is resisting because the government has set as priorities of this economy principles that enable an economic growth of 3.4% in the most difficult trimester. The first trimester is normally idler, without too much enthusiasm”, Berisha declared.
The indicators for a positive growth in the first trimester were a good occasion for the Prime Minister to criticize the opposition’s platform for canceling all privatizations that according to them are based on corruption.
“This is an economy that is based more than every other economy in the private sector. Those who say that will make nationalisations, I remind them of Chavez, because he is the only self-declared Socialist in the world that makes nationalisations. What does it mean to cancel the privatizations? It means to make use of nationalization, a practice that the European social-democracy has left behind in the ‘70s”, Berisha added.
According to the Prime Minister, the data show so far that the positive indicators of the Albanian economy will continue to grow, not only due to the tourist season, but also thanks to the government decision for cutting expenses and keeping the macro-economic stability, without which this growth, as the Prime Minister said, cannot be realized.
