Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The Socialist leader, Edi Rama, warned that there might be a third
failure of Albania in the Parliamentary Commission for the conclusion of
the electoral reform.
According to Rama, compromise is still far from being reached, and for this he blames the majority’s stances.
“There is not time. Days are passing away and the new deadline for the electoral reform will be burned, if there will be no consensus. The Socialist Party has thrown all the steps for finding compromise, but now it is up to the government to give the compromise and give up from their old positions after the elections of 2009, not only for the Central Election Commission, but also for the transparency of the electoral materials, threatening this way the election integrity by creating an unreliable process from this moment”, Rama declared.
He also commented the issue of the Waste Import Referendum, by repeating the requests of the SP for reforming CEC, as it is also requested in an OSCE-ODIHR recommendation after the May 8th local elections in 2011.
“CEC gave another spectacular proof that they are a tool of the government, and their decisions only favor the ruling party, by making it impossible to have the referendum before the next elections. We have no reason to hope that this CEC will behave differently in the next electoral process, and we have all reasons to believe that its reformation would bring calmness and normality in the electoral process”, Rama declared.
Another concern for Rama, was the refusal of the Ministers and Prime Minister Berisha to answer in interpellations.
“The fatalities among the poor Bulqize families have turned into a routine, while the Prime Minister has been refusing for the last three months to answer in an interpellation about it. A recent scandal that involves the Ministry of Defense officials in a traffic of arms is another alarm bell that requires a full transparency of the activity of this Ministry”, Rama declared.
Rama considered the refusal of the interpellances as a degradation of the state institutions.
