Berisha: No return of death penalty

The Albanian Prime Minister announced the package of laws that aims to make harsher punishments for several offences.

“There will be harsher punishments for domestic violence, murder of women, for violence against children, murder of police officers, and also for blood feuds”, the government leader declared.

As for the murder of a 10-year-old boy by a child abuser, Berisha said that this has shocked the entire public opinion, and many of them have requested a return of the death penalty.

“Albania is a Council of Europe member and the death penalty was removed as a condition for the admission. A series of US states have removed this law too, because it didn’t affected criminal rates. We must be objective and take no steps back, or even think abandoning the Council of Europe”, Berisha declared.

During this speech, Berisha declared that those who use these tragedies to say that the state is not present do it because of grudges and ignorance, because Albania’s resolved cases and are ranked among the highest rated.

SP: Citizens don’t feel safe

Socialist MP Eglantina Gjermeni declared that the state must play its role in a democratic society.

“The Albanian citizens are not safe when the police is late with its reaction. There’s security only when the authorities have the power to prevent”, Gjermeni declared.
