Linda Rama: Between Family, Work and Albania’s Future The former Albanian Prime Minister and also former Socialist leader,
Fatos Nano, visited the Prime Minister’s office to request the
majority’s support in his candidacy for President. The meeting went on
for 40 minutes.
Nano left the Prime Minister’s office without releasing any declaration for the journalists, to whom he waved while driving his car.
This is the first time that Nano gives no press declaration after meeting a party leader for his candidacy.
Nano entered the Prime Minister’s office from the main gate, exactly on the place where four opposition protesters were killed on January 21st demonstrations.
The Prime Minister had previously declared that Nano would not be a candidate from the majority, but it remains to be seen after two weeks if the majority will accept Nano as a consensual candidate.
The Democrats have hinted on their press releases that the majority will have its own candidate, and voices say that it will be the current Parliament Speaker, Jozefina Topalli.
This meeting was very important for Nano’s campaign, after he had already met the SMI leader, Ilir Meta; the Socialist leader, Edi Rama; the PJIU leader, Shpetim Idrizi; the Republican leader, Fatmir Mediu; and the UHRP leader, Vangjel Dule; and also the most active foreign diplomats in our country.
Nano visited the Prime Minister’s office for the first time after seven years.
