Berisha: If obliged, we’ll review relations with Serbia

One day after the events in the Presheva Valley, where a great number of
police forces removed a monument that commemorated the Albanian martyrs
who fell against the Serbian regime, the Prime Minister held a press
release declaring that Albania might review the relations with Serbia,
if obliged, appealing neighbouring countries to stop with the
albanophobia.

“This Sunday, at the Presheva Valley, in front of the citizens and TV cameras, we saw once again the racism, the hate and the fear that Belgrade authorities feel against the Albanians. We strongly condemn this act, and the Albanian government will start reviewing all relations with the government of Serbia. I guarantee the Presheva citizens that Albania is determined to do everything possible in international institutions. Their right cause will be protected in every arena. I appeal the international community to not use two standards: one for the Northern Mitrovica Serbs, and one for Presheva citizens. They must not stop one part, just because they try to implement the laws, and allow the other to turn the territory into a smuggling island, with the help of Belgrade. I strongly condemn all violent acts against institutions, cemeteries or everything else that belongs to the Serbian heritage in Kosovo. I urge the Kosovo government to take strong measures against these acts that have nothing in common with the Kosovo people. These individuals are committing a big mistake by imitating Milosevic’s heirs. This is not the right path. The right path is our nation’s unification with Europe, and our neighbours should free themselves from the ancient hate and phobia against Albanians. I appeal the other nations of the region to see in the unification of Albanians an emancipation process for the entire region”, Berisha declared.
