Berisha hints DP president candidate

During this non-public period, Berisha mentioned the Presidential issue and informed the Democratic MPs about important issues that are not only related with his agenda for the Presidential election, but that also give a hint about the majority’s candidate.

In fact, what Berisha declared in the Parliament Group meeting is no surprise, but this is the first time that the Prime Minister communicates with the MPs, after the meeting between Edi Rama and Ilir Meta.

The majority declared that after returning from the NATO summit in Chicago, he will gather the Democratic Party leadership and he sees this meeting as very necessary not only for the mandate of the leadership to negotiate with the allies and the parliamentary factors.

In the leadership meeting that is expected to be held 10 days after, PM Berisha will discuss with the leadership and decide about the next Democratic Party candidate for President.

This is where Berisha made the second confirmation:

“The Democratic Party will negotiate with their candidate, which must derive from the Democratic Party leadership. This candidate will not be a second-hand or third-hand leader”, Berisha declared.

The DP statute sets as first-hand leaders the General Secretary, Ridvan Bode, and the two vice party leaders, Astrit Patozi and Jozefina Topalli. But Berisha used the feminine for the word “candidate”, a hint that was also used by his ally, the Socialist Movement for Integration leader, Ilir Meta. Since the SMI is still insisting for the president, the final name could be premature.

Berisha did not comment about the meeting between Edi Rama and Ilir Meta, but he guaranteed the Democratic MPs for the stability of the coalition. At least, as Berisha himself declared, the Democratic Party is fulfilling its coalition obligations with loyalty.
