Berisha: Government meeting in Vlore

“Our national memory brings us another event that is as important as the flag that was raised in Vlore and declared the independence. December 4th 1912 is another marked day in the history of our country. It is the day when the first Albanian government was created, since the time of Skanderbeg. In 4 December 1912, the Vlore Parliament elected the first government with Ismail Qemali as a Prime Minister, who also had the role of the Foreign Minister.

This new government had 10 ministers, politicians, activists, famous people of patriotic and political movements, publicists and religious people: Deputy Prime Minister, Dom Nikoll Kaçorri, a personality of the Catholic Church and Archbishop of Durres ; Interior Minister, Luigj Gurakuqi, one of the main figures of the democratic and patriotic movement; Minister of Justice, Petro Poga, publisher of “Drita” newspaper in Istanbul; Minister of Agriculture, Pandeli Cele; Minister of Finances, Abdi Toptani; Minister of War, Mehmet Pash Derrralla, one of the protagonists of the Albanian League of Prizren, 1878; Minister of World Affairs, Mit’hat Frasheri, another well-known figure of the Albanian politics in the first half of XX century and the Minister of Post and Telegraph, Lef Nosi, signer of the Independence Act.

Although in difficult conditions due to the interior and foreign policies of that time, this government took a series of measures to build the Albanian state, to develop the national culture and economy that would bring democratic development and a new independent state. This government defended the rights of the Albanians at the International Commission of Control”, Bregu declared, saying that on December 4th 2012, at 10:00, the Albanian government led by Prime Minister Berisha will hold its government meeting in Vlore.
