Berisha: Forests to be privatized

The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, asked the heads of communes to include forests in privatization processes, to protect
them from destruction.

The Prime Minister communicated to the heads of the communes that now they have full competences for administering the territory.

“We have tried to make great transfers for the forest administration. I want to notify you that during this year, the central government will administer only 10% of the forests, in national parks. But by transferring everything at you, I invite you to become an active part of the office privatization. This will be the year of the massive forest privatization.

The Prime Minister has criticized the heads of the communes for the pollution in rural areas, where most of the wastes are not managed or are dumped in riverbeds.

“In the entire territory of your communes, the wastes are a symbol. Many of them become automatically a symbol of the local administration. A good part of you do not register the forests that we have transferred You don’t go and make the registration. You asked us to remove the fees, by saying that you couldn’t afford them, and we did it. There is a tax which is very honest and the most well proportioned, in Albania and throughout the world, the property tax. You do not collect it, or collect it in insignificant percentages”, Berisha declared.

Prime Minister Berisha declared that the communes must show good fiscal performance, since they administer all resources, in the framework of decentralization.
