Prime Minister Sali Berisha interrupted his summer holidays for gathering
the government cabinet. The report of Direct Foreign Investments that ranks
Albania second in the region, published by the UNPD office in Tirana on
August 1st, was a good occasion for praising the merits of the Albanian
economic model. (UPDATE)

“A model that is based on the lowest fiscal burden in Europe, with the lowest public taxes on the private sector in Europe, a model that is based in the maximal removal of bureaucratic delays”, Berisha declared.

The Albanian Prime Minister added that Albania is experiencing an industrial revolution. According to him, the foreign investments are concentrated for industrializing the country with the most modern technologies and telecommunication.

The increase of direct foreign investments, according to the Prime Minister, coincides with the three times increase of Albanian exports. The Prime Minister did not hesitate to say that foreign investments have created thousands of new jobs in Albania, although official data say that 2011 has 18,000 jobs less than 2006.

But the government meeting was a good occasion for making new promises on behalf of the new Mayor, Lulzim Basha. The Prime Minister declared that the protests in Tirana have had a negative effect towards foreign investors, but have not faded their trust on Tirana. According to him, the new Mayor will turn Tirana into a locomotive of foreign investments.
