Berisha: Farmers to create cooperatives

The government has approved a decision that encourages farmers to
organize voluntarily in agricultural companies, as a cooperative with
modern concepts and private management by the owners.

According to Berisha, this form of organization, widely spread in the west, allows the farmers to yield more revenues through joint efforts, and make the necessary marketing of their goods.

Berisha declared that the development of the agricultural sector is one of the main priorities of his government, and for this reason, he tasked the Ministry of Agriculture to digitalize the information that the farmers throughout the country would need. He also tasked the Ministry of Finances to cooperate with the Albanian Bank and other financial factors for establishing the financing infrastructure for the farmers.

“Given the extraordinary potential of this sector for recovering the economy of the people who live in villages, we must make everything possible so that they can receive the best knowledge, the best seeds, the best chemicals of today’s standards and the supporting financial infrastructure, mainly based on small loans. This digital and financial infrastructure network must cover the entire territory of Albania, and we must consider it as a strong leverage that will encourage the agricultural production and employment in this sector”, Berisha declared.

Prime Minister Berisha underlined that after the full construction of the infrastructure, with secondary and tertiary roads that would make farmers bring their goods to market in a shorter time, the government will start realizing the irrigation project, which is expensive but that the PM considers as the most important for Albania’s modern development.
