Berisha: EU integration, based on merits

The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, declared at the Parliamentary
Assembly of the Council of Europe, held in Strasbourg, declaring that
Albania’s EU integration must be based on merits.

Albania is building a modern infrastructure, and we have had an economic growth in the last 5 yearsa”, Berisha declared, reminding that Albania’s membership in this organization in 1995 has been the fulfillment of a big dream. Berisha spoke about the focuses of the Albanian presidency.

“We want to raise awareness against religious conflicts with the other people. Our priority are some cases that are related with youth and its education”, Berisha declared.

During this visit, Berisha will hold meetings with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly, Jean-Claude Mignon and the General Secretary of the Council of Europe, Thorbjørn Jagland. Berisha will then travel to Turkey, where he will be present in a high rank meeting with the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization.

The Black Sea Economic Cooperation initiative started in 1992 and includes 11 countries: Albania, Armenaia, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Greece, Romania, Russia, Turkey and Ukraine, and its goal is to encourage cooperation between the countries.
