The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, declared in the Parliamentary
Group meeting that this harsh winter tested the functionality of the
state administration, the local and central institutions; a test that
according to Berisha was passed with great seriousness.
“I want to thank the citizens, the local administrations, the MPs and the central government institutions for the complete and efficient commitment through which they faced an unprecedented situation for the last 27 years. This was the most massive emergency operation in history, extended from the Northern Alps to the southeastern ridges”, Berisha underlined.
The Democratic leader added that this weather caused 560 victims in Europe, and he thanked the heads of communes who, according to Berisha, cooperated without politicization and in harmony with the district and central emergency headquarters.
Berisha attacked the opposition leader, Edi Rama:
“I regret very much that no Socialist MP had visited some districts. I guarantee the Albanian citizens that this happened under an absurd order of their leader, not that the Socialist MPs didn’t want to visit the areas in difficulties”.
“Millions of meters cub of snow were removed from roads, and 90 communes and municipalities were brought out of isolation. There are still some communes in the northern areas of the country which are still blocked”, the PM added.
